About the role
- Manage infrastructure planning to support urban intensification across the city
- Contribute in developing strategies for stormwater, water, and wastewater systems for intensification
- Coordinate with renewal planning efforts
- Enable infill development through proactive infrastructure solutions
- Manage the on-site stormwater management program
- Conduct flow monitoring and inflow & infiltration studies to mitigate the impacts of intensification growth
- Contribute to a range of initiatives aimed at improving servicing capacity and infrastructure delivery
- Recommend suggestions for developing a funding framework for intensification-related infrastructure
- Implement a servicing program for capacity tracking
- Support development review through flood pathway screening
- Assess fire flow capacity risks and contribute to sanitary system capacity improvements via wet weather impact assessments
- Support conceptual servicing studies and functional designs
- Functionally manage consultant’s deliverables
- Conduct system modeling and data analysis
- Mentor junior staff
- Collaborate across departments and align with city-wide planning priorities.
Requirements
- Completion of 4 year university degree in Civil Engineering or a related Applied Sciences program
- Minimum of 8 years of related professional experience in water, wastewater and storm water infrastructure including planning, analysis and design
- Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO)
- Fundamental knowledge of hydrology and hydraulics as it relates to water resources
- Complex municipal systems
- Applicable legislation and practices governing water, wastewater and storm water infrastructure planning and implementation, such as, Planning Act, Municipal Act, Water Resources Act, Environmental Assessment Act, Federal Fisheries Act, City Official Plan, City Master Plans, Class Environmental Assessment process, Development Charges process
- Analytical techniques for water, wastewater and storm water system analysis that are in current practice
- Municipal infrastructure planning principles
- Public consultation process
- Project management principles
- Capital and operating budget process
- Process management concepts and principles
- Strong knowledge of computer modeling tools including data requirements, results interpretation, model sensitivities, predictive modeling techniques and calibration techniques
- Must be familiar with all applicable health and safety legislation, have knowledge of any potential or actual danger to health or safety in the work place, and have knowledge of appropriate actions to be taken in order to ensure the health and safety of staff in accordance with applicable legislation and City policies and procedures
- Expert knowledge in applicable technical specialty (i.e. hydrology, hydraulics, computer modeling, storm water management, etc.) as demonstrated by advanced academic qualifications or significant direct experience
- Knowledge of operation of water and wastewater systems.
