About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Develop and execute the communications and marketing strategy for City of Hope’s commercialization organization, ensuring consistent and compelling messaging across all external audiences.
  • Translate complex scientific, clinical, and translational innovations into clear, partner-ready narratives for pharmaceutical, biotechnology, investor, entrepreneurial, and foundation stakeholders.
  • Lead the strategy, development, launch, and maintenance of City of Hope’s innovation and commercialization website, highlighting partnership opportunities, licensing assets, accelerator programs, and scientific capabilities.
  • Create and oversee high-impact marketing materials including executive presentations, pitch decks, one-pagers, scientific content, digital campaigns, newsletters, and business development collateral.
  • Drive communications and marketing initiatives for Hope Catalyst, promoting programs, success stories, innovation opportunities, and engagement with investors, mentors, entrepreneurs, and industry partners.
  • Partner with Business Development and Licensing teams to develop partnering packages, investor materials, conference assets, non-confidential summaries, and industry outreach campaigns that support transaction generation.
  • Support thought leadership, scientific events, innovation forums, investor showcases, and industry conferences through strategic messaging, speaker preparation, promotional campaigns, and post-event communications.
  • Build and strengthen the commercialization organization’s brand by positioning City of Hope as a scientifically exceptional, commercially sophisticated, and highly collaborative innovation partner.
  • Develop compelling content strategies that highlight breakthrough discoveries, commercialization successes, licensing opportunities, startup creation, strategic partnerships, and patient-impact stories.
  • Collaborate across Communications, Legal, Compliance, Government Affairs, Philanthropy, Business Development, Licensing, Intellectual Property, and scientific leadership teams to ensure alignment, accuracy, and institutional consistency.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Communications, Marketing, Business, Healthcare, or a related field required.
  • Advanced degree in Science, Medicine, Business, Communications, or Public Health preferred.
  • 15+ years of experience in scientific communications, life sciences marketing, biotechnology, pharmaceutical communications, healthcare innovation, commercialization, business development support, or strategic communications.
  • Proven success developing scientific, technical, and commercial communications for life sciences, healthcare, biotech, pharmaceutical, or academic medical center audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex scientific and clinical concepts into compelling and market-ready messaging.
  • Experience creating executive presentations, pitch decks, website content, marketing campaigns, one-pagers, newsletters, and strategic communications materials.
  • Strong understanding of commercialization, technology transfer, licensing, strategic partnerships, innovation, translational research, or business development.
  • Experience managing communications across scientific, clinical, legal, compliance, executive, and operational stakeholders.
  • Ability to engage effectively with industry partners, investors, entrepreneurs, foundations, and strategic collaborators.
  • Exceptional writing, storytelling, editing, project management, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Prior experience supporting commercialization, venture creation, accelerator programs, licensing, or business development in an academic medical center, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or innovation-driven environment preferred.
  • Familiarity with oncology, cell therapy, diagnostics, precision medicine, biologics, data platforms, or related therapeutic areas is highly desirable.
  • Ability to travel 30–40% as needed.
