About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Manage an assigned portfolio of commercial real estate loans
- Underwrite and process new credit requests, including complex credits and construction projects
- Underwrite specialty property assets
- Handle renewals and modifications of existing credits
- Conduct annual loan reviews and monitor loan covenants
- Assess risk changes based on market and industry conditions
- Ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines, credit policy, and regulatory requirements
- Structure and underwrite new credit requests and prepare credit approval packages
- Aggregate credit relationship details and perform quality control of supporting analyses
- Advise the Real Estate Risk Manager and/or Director of Real Estate Risk on adverse changes in loan risk profiles
- Monitor, maintain, and potentially grow loan portfolios with Relationship Managers
- Process renewal and modification transactions and support restructuring of existing terms and conditions
- Gather client financial information for underwriting and portfolio servicing assignments
- Document risk rating changes, Watch List Action Plans, and transfers of underperforming credits to Asset Recovery
- Support Relationship Managers' sales efforts, client and prospect calls, market research, and other client-oriented projects
- Develop working knowledge of client relationships and prospect opportunities
- Participate in bank examiner, auditor, and loan review staff examinations of the Real Estate loan portfolio
- Participate in industry associations, seminars, and activities
- Conduct ad hoc projects as directed by the Real Estate Risk Manager or Director of Real Estate Risk
Requirements
What you’ll need- 10 years of commercial real estate underwriting and/or portfolio management experience
- Preferably experience with OCC-regulated institutions
- Construction underwriting experience is a plus
- C&I experience with owner-occupied real estate is a plus
- Computer literacy
- Fluency in Microsoft Office programs, particularly Excel analysis
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
- Effective report writing and written communication skills
- Detail-oriented and organized
- Ability to solve problems, make decisions, manage multiple underwriting deals, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines
- Ability to identify loan risks, problems, or questions during underwriting
- Ability to make decisions quickly and confidently based on analysis
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Clear verbal communication with internal and external clients and third-party participants as needed
- Ability to establish and maintain effective internal and external work relationships
- Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or Economics, or an equivalent combination of education and/or relevant professional experience in lieu of a degree
