About the role
- Provide legal counsel to the Business
- Participate in strategic initiatives
- Provide subject matter expertise and interpretations of relevant laws, rules, regulations, and industry practices
- Advise business management on legal matters impacting the business
- Partner with legal peers to evaluate business proposals and apply institutional knowledge against industry standards
- Collaborate across internal lines of business and external counsel
- Participate in business planning and development initiatives
- Assist team in managing legal, regulatory, and reputational risk
- Manage day-to-day legal activities as an expert in area of responsibility
- Monitor complex legal issues and transactions
- Negotiate and prepare various agreements and legal documentation
- Conduct due diligence to check enforceability of agreements
- Coordinate and track deviation approvals
- Provide legal support across a range of practice areas while assessing risk
- Manage data inputting for trading documentation and interact with regional teams
Requirements
- 5-8 years of relevant industry experience, preferably in financial services
- Banking or financial industry experience, including laws related to banking regulations
- Knowledge of international laws, regulations and practices while staying abreast of regulatory and legal environment, internal policies and industry trends that impact the business
- Experience with complex deals, demonstrated ability to analyze issues and develop legal solutions
- Effective communication and negotiation skills and ability to build and maintain trusted relationships
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational and relationship management skills
- Proven ability to apply sound judgement while managing assignments in a demanding, fast-paced environment
- Bar license in good standing to practice law
- Juris Doctorate or equivalent law degree
