About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Own the long-term vision and product strategy for Splunk’s SPL search language
  • Define how internal and third-party developers build on SPL
  • Lead cross-functional alignment to integrate SPL across products with different execution models
  • Create a consistent analytical experience across the Splunk portfolio
  • Define the query-planning model translating user intent into execution against indexes, distributed data stores, and streaming or third-party runtimes
  • Establish compatibility, versioning, and migration principles for evolving the language without changing existing search behavior
  • Build the language roadmap from direct customer and internal client insight
  • Connect platform architecture to user workflows
  • Influence partner teams and senior leaders through narratives and architecture reviews
  • Resolve technical disagreements and drive a coherent language strategy
  • Lead go-to-market and internal rollout across team boundaries

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Minimum of 8 years of professional experience
  • At least 5 years of product management experience with a highly technical platform or developer product
  • Validated depth in a query language, database engine, compiler, runtime, or developer platform
  • Experience crafting how a technical platform or language behaves and evolves
  • Experience driving technical direction across organizational boundaries
  • Experience with technical customers or internal developers as a primary customer
  • Ability to build alignment around product and architectural direction
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication with technical and executive audiences
  • Ability to explain architecture decisions clearly and respond to technical challenges in real time
  • Experience handling compatibility for customer-authored content or public developer interfaces
  • Experience handling developer- or customer-impacting migrations
  • Preferred: familiarity with SPL and customer content built on it
  • Preferred: experience with distributed query engines or orchestration platforms
  • Preferred: background in security analytics, observability products, or analytics over metrics, logs, traces, and spans
  • Preferred: experience designing query interfaces for AI agents
