About the role
- Manage a large inventory of complex primary and excess professional liability claims across the U.S. and Canada
- Plan and conduct complex claims investigations
- Retain and direct approved consultants
- Maintain cost controls and oversee the work of outside counsel
- Analyze and negotiate claim settlements/reserves
- Authorize payments in accordance with authority limit
- Maintain accurate and detailed claim files
- Assist Underwriting, Marketing, Risk Management, and Loss Prevention with projects
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Risk Management and Insurance, Finance, or a related field or equivalent experience
- Minimum of 9 years of experience in property and casualty claims handling
- Completion of or progress toward a professional designation preferred, such as Associate in Claims (AIC)
- May possess LLM (Master's of Law) or JD (Juris Doctorate) and 2 to 4 years of post-bar experience
- Excellent analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
- Strong knowledge of insurance policies, coverage, and claims handling procedures
- Knowledge of industry laws and regulations
- Strong ability to organize and prioritize caseloads
