About the role

  • Conducts comprehensive reviews and evaluations of underwriting and operations applications, ensuring alignment with Company policies and underwriting guidelines.
  • Collaborates with underwriters and brokers/agents to obtain additional information and clarify application details.
  • Analyzes relevant data, including financial statements, property valuations, and loss histories to assess risk exposure.
  • Prepares and maintains underwriting files, ensuring all documents and approvals are properly filed.
  • Compiles reports on risk evaluations, policy statuses, and portfolio performance for underwriters and management.
  • May underwrite new and renewal policy transactions within written authority.
  • Enters and audits policy information on an assigned product, territory and / or agency in accordance with template rules.
  • Reviews premium and loss data on an individual account as part of renewal underwriting, change underwriting, or mid-term underwriting.
  • Orders, evaluates, and takes appropriate action on required reports, endorsement requests, service requests, and general correspondence.
  • Research and respond to complex questions from brokers/agents.
  • Evaluate and classify business, perform rating and develop sample policies in a timely manner in support of the quoting process.
  • Issue and bill policies within SLAs Monitor the Wrap Up enrollment mailbox for insured requests and manage to a 48-hour processing SLA.
  • Determine renewal & non-renewal status for wrap up programs or practice policies.
  • Process non-renewals in a timely manner in accordance with state insurance regulations.
  • Calculate renewal exposures, process and issue renewal policies within policy effective months.
  • Oversee the premium audit process in collaboration with the Premium Audit Team.
  • Act as a liaison between the Wrap Up administrator and the Premium Audit Team resolving any premium audit needs.
  • Process and issue the final premium audits within 90 days of policy expiration.
  • Participates in various departmental initiatives, including updates and enhancements to forms and interfaces, conducting user acceptance testing for systems and policies, and evaluating the impact on existing policies and practices.
  • May provide guidance to less experienced staff and serve as a resource to other functional areas.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Education: Associates Degree in Business, Finance, or a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Experience: Generally, a minimum of 10 years of experience in Underwriting or Operations.
  • Experience with Large Deductible and SIR policies, and Wrap Up programs.
  • Beginning or continuing progress toward a professional designation such as Associate in Underwriting (AU), Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC), Program in General Insurance (INS), or Associate of Risk Management (ARM) preferred.
  • Scope of Job/Qualifications: Performs specialized duties utilizing often-complex processes/procedures; advanced knowledge of coverage and forms; strong analytical skills.
  • Additional: Position requires ability to work in a fast-paced underwriting environment and collaborate with underwriters and brokers.
