Senior Legal Counsel, Legal Commercial Operations

About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Support the Marketing, Digital, and Communications functions at Circle K.
- Provide day‑to‑day legal advice on marketing and advertising initiatives, including claims substantiation, promotional campaigns, sweepstakes, and digital marketing.
- Advise on the legal aspects of websites, mobile apps, and online platforms; e-commerce and digital sales; personalization and digital marketing; collection of customer data.
- Review and approve marketing copy, press releases, creative materials, and consumer‑facing disclosures.
- Review, negotiate, and approve contracts related to marketing, advertising, promotional campaigns, sweepstakes, and digital marketing.
- Advise on influencer, endorsement, and testimonial compliance.
- Review product labels, packaging, and marketing claims, with a focus on regulated products.
- Support pricing strategies, discounts, and promotional offers.
- Advise on design, implementation, and modification of loyalty and rewards programs.
- Counsel on pricing practices, promotions, and related consumer protection risks.
- Identify and manage regulatory risk associated with regulated product categories and privacy.
- Escalate complex or high‑risk issues and partner closely with senior enterprise legal leaders on strategy and resolution.
- Develop and deliver practical training for Marketing and Communications teams on legal risk, compliance requirements, and best practices.
- Design and develop tools, such as guidance materials and playbooks, to allow the business to self-serve on common items and to support scalable, compliant execution.
Requirements
What you’ll need- JD or equivalent from an accredited institution and admission to at least one US state bar.
- 10+ years of experience, with a minimum of 5 years leading teams and/or functions (in-house and law firm).
- Strong background advising on marketing, advertising, promotions, privacy, applicable regulatory, and consumer protection issues.
- Experience with regulated and age-restricted products and/or loyalty programs is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment, balance risk, and work quickly with creative, fast‑moving teams.
- Comfortable advising on a broad and shifting array of retail legal issues, including the enthusiasm to counsel on new and trending areas of law.
- Ability to work comfortably while processes and systems are being established.
- Collaborative spirit with a sense of humor.
