About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Act within the scope of practice of a Medical Assistant
- Perform clinical duties supporting safe and organized delivery of services to children and families in the Children’s Medical Group setting
- Adhere to Children’s Wisconsin and Children’s Medical Group procedures and standards
- Maintain confidentiality and HIPAA compliance
- Provide exceptional care to patients and families
- Complete pre-visit planning before clinic appointments to improve visit efficiency and identify care gaps
- Maintain a clean, organized environment and prepare exam rooms for safety and clinical requirements
- Greet patients and families, direct them to exam rooms, and maintain clinic flow by monitoring location and wait times
- Collect and document patient information, including vitals, measurements, health screenings, allergies, and home medications
- Report observations or concerns to the nurse or provider
- Assist providers during examinations and procedures
- Administer medications and immunizations and assist with capillary and peripheral blood draws as directed
- Communicate with providers, leaders, and staff to maintain clinic operations
- Alert providers or Registered Nurses to patients needing immediate assistance
- Monitor supplies and equipment availability for patient care
- Prepare clinics by completing paperwork procedures and ensuring required information, prior authorizations, and pre-certifications are available
- Assist with customer service representative duties as needed
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School graduate or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED) or High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED) required
- Graduate of medical assistant program preferred
- In lieu of medical assistant program education, 6 months of experience in a patient care role would be considered
- Experience in a primary care, urgent care, or specialty care pediatric setting preferred
- Experience administering immunizations and other injections preferred
- Experience with pediatric patients preferred
- Ability to assist and support other primary care locations as requested by leaders and/or the Children’s Medical Group float policy
- Ability to work with a diverse patient population to promote a culturally competent environment
- Flexibility of time and duties in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work independently and within a team
- Electronic Health Record proficiency preferred
- Night and/or weekend hours may be required during high-volume or viral-surge periods
- CMA—Certified Medical Assistant certification preferred
- BLS—Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider certification required through the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or National Safety Council
