About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Develop, implement, and maintain standardized design templates for telecommunications facilities, including cabinets, remote huts, points of presence, and central office expansions
  • Create and manage pre-engineered layouts, power architectures, battery configurations, and material standards
  • Establish and maintain approved equipment and materials standards for rectifiers, batteries, generators, transfer switches, racking systems, cable management solutions, and related infrastructure
  • Define and enforce drawing, labeling, naming, and documentation standards
  • Assess existing facilities against standards, identify improvement opportunities, and develop remediation plans
  • Maintain version-controlled standards, typical drawings, and reference designs
  • Document and manage site-specific deviations where required
  • Design telecommunications facilities and supporting infrastructure, including DC power and battery systems, standby generation, commercial power integration, grounding and bonding, cable management, and environmental support systems
  • Manage projects through concept, detailed design, construction support, and as-built documentation
  • Develop bills of materials, cost estimates, and technical documentation for procurement, capital planning, and network expansion
  • Provide technical leadership in facilities and power design
  • Help establish and evolve organizational standards, processes, and best practices
  • Coordinate with Network Operations, Field Services, internal stakeholders, field technicians, contractors, and vendors

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electronics Engineering Technology, or a related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
  • Minimum five (5) years of progressive experience in telecommunications infrastructure design
  • Experience with central offices, inside plant environments, data centres, or closely related electrical design and installation roles
  • Strong understanding of -48 VDC power distribution, battery systems, standby power generation, and AC electrical distribution
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to interpret and develop electrical single-line diagrams, panel schedules, equipment layouts, and related technical drawings
  • Experience developing bills of materials (BOMs), quantity takeoffs, and design documentation
  • Ability to work independently in a remote or distributed environment
  • Ability to coordinate with internal stakeholders, field technicians, contractors, and vendors
  • Valid driver's license
  • Willingness to travel to project sites, including remote and rural locations
