About the role
- Conduct internal audits across various operational areas including underwriting, funding, post-closing, compliance, and collateral review
- Evaluate the effectiveness of internal controls and identify opportunities for improvement while reporting to the VP of Internal Audit.
- Develop, document, and implement audit plans, programs, and testing procedures
- Analyze loan files, systems, and processes to verify adherence to Non-QM program guidelines and internal standards
- Review and assess compliance with regulatory requirements, including state and federal mortgage lending laws
- Prepare clear and concise audit reports summarizing findings, root causes, and recommendations
- Collaborate with management to design and implement corrective action plans
- Track resolution of audit findings and perform follow-up reviews to ensure proper remediation
- Participate in risk assessments to identify high-risk areas and prioritize future audits
- Assist in the development and enhancement of company policies and procedures
- Maintain detailed audit documentation in accordance with company and investor audit standards
- Provide recommendations to strengthen internal processes and operational controls
- Partner with external auditors and assist with investor due diligence reviews as needed
- Support continuous process improvement initiatives across the organization
Requirements
- 3–5 years of experience in internal auditing, compliance, or quality control within the mortgage or financial services industry
- Strong understanding of Non-QM loan programs, operations, and regulatory frameworks
- Knowledge of audit methodologies, risk assessments, and process evaluation techniques
- Familiarity with Encompass or other LOS platforms preferred
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities with attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
