About the role

  • Supports company litigation portfolio including eDiscovery activities, workflow management, and attorney support.
  • Prepares a variety of technical legal documents (indictments, arrest warrants, summonses, motions, orders, stipulations, plea agreements, subpoenas, legal memoranda).
  • Reviews incoming documents and material and obtains required information from criminal case files and law enforcement agencies.
  • Ensures legal documents conform to local court rules and format requirements.
  • Assists attorneys in preparing for trial: compiles trial and witness notebooks, organizes trial exhibits, assembles jury instructions, compiles witness and exhibit lists.
  • Coordinates with victim/witness specialist and notifies case agents and office staff of victim/witness issues.
  • Verifies legal citations and statutory references using Westlaw and/or Lexis/Nexis and researches citations for accuracy.
  • Proofreads, edits, and revises legal briefs; develops tables of contents and indices; lists cited cases and references.
  • Electronically files legal documents with U.S. District Court using CM/ECF and transmits proposed orders to the court.
  • Scans/inputs and links case-related materials into electronic discovery databases; uploads/downloads materials from law enforcement partners.
  • Manages discovery processing and production; sends continuing discovery to defense counsel as directed.
  • Bates-stamps and redacts discovery materials using Adobe Acrobat; may use IPRO Eclipse; utilizes ESI tools and eDiscovery procedures.
  • Maintains electronic case files, enters data in case management system, calendars deadlines using MS Outlook, prepares and files conflict of interest and case opening forms.

Requirements

  • Requires paralegal certificate, or JD, or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school, having completed at least one year of study.
  • At least two years of litigation paralegal experience is required; trial experience is very helpful.
  • At least one year of experience in automated litigation support.
  • Requires sound working knowledge of federal and state court systems, legal research procedures, and legal research resources.
  • Requires excellent written and oral communication skills and thorough knowledge of legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw.
  • Must have hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases (such as document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems.
  • Role also requires hands-on familiarity with ESI tools and knowledge of eDiscovery procedures and resources.
  • Proficiently bates-stamps and redacts discovery materials using Adobe Acrobat and may employ discovery processing techniques using IPRO Eclipse.
  • Electronically files legal documents with the U.S. District Court using the CM/ECF system.
  • Ability to consistently deliver the highest quality work under extreme pressure.
