Mechanical Staff Designer II

About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Communication of basic design requirements effectively with internal and external design team members, contractors, and equipment sales representatives to determine project scope and feasibility.
- Begin to develop design approaches and concepts with the input and oversight from senior staff.
- Participate in client, company, and industry events to build and maintain professional relationships.
- Develop an understanding of industry standards, the technical policies and company-specific procedures for project execution.
- Perform calculations, design basic engineering system(s), and fulfill other duties as assigned through collaboration and with assistance from experienced design staff.
- Create system layouts, detail drawings, schematics, and schedules using Revit, AutoCAD or other software.
- Develop Heating and Cooling Load Calculations within Carrier HAP software.
- Model airside ductwork, air terminals, and equipment.
- Model waterside piping, pumps, terminal and main equipment.
- Help prepare and modify studies, plans, reports, specifications, and project designs.
- Assist project managers and design team with project coordination and facilitation between architects, contractors, other engineers, and other team members to determine project scope, feasibility, and equipment needs, and provide operating procedures and technical information.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Architectural Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university and 3 or more years of relevant experience is preferred; Or a minimum of 5 years of relevant design experience without a degree is required.
- Master’s degree in Mechanical or Architectural Engineering, or similar discipline, can substitute up to 1 year of work experience.
- Intermediate knowledge and proficiency in engineering design, AEC industry, codes and standards is required.
- Completion of Fundamentals of Engineering Examination (FE) and certification as an Engineering in Training (EIT) with a state licensure board is preferred.
- Computer skills necessary to enter daily timesheet data and use Microsoft Outlook for email correspondence.
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite. Prior experience with AutoCAD, Revit, Carrier HAP, and BlueBeam Revu is preferred.
