About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Code inpatient records, capturing all diagnoses, POA indicators, and procedures, and validate key UHDDS elements
- Abstract pertinent information from patient records to accurately reflect the patient’s encounter
- Review CDI concurrent review notes and work with the CDI Team to ensure optimal code capture
- Ensure optimal reimbursement in compliance with CMS policies and procedures and Official Coding Guidelines
- Implement the AHS physician query process when code assignments are not straightforward or documentation is inadequate, ambiguous, or unclear
- Complete coding of all discharges and encounters while meeting the minimum productivity requirement of 10 per day and a 95% accuracy rating
- Code assignments include inpatient acute care, inpatient psych, inpatient hospice, and newborn cases
- Monitor the Coding Priority WQ throughout the day and clear cases each day
- Ensure cases never remain on any WQs for more than 3 days
- Keep abreast of coding guidelines and reimbursement reporting requirements
- Work with the assigned Lead to review coding questions and participate in coder feedback sessions and coding meetings
- Bring identified concerns to leadership
- Abide by the Standards of Ethical Coding set forth by the American Health Information Management Association
- Perform other duties as assigned or necessary
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school graduate or GED
- CCS—AHIMA’s Certified Coding Specialist certification
- Knowledge of ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and DRGs
- Knowledge of anatomy and physiology, disease processes, and pathology
- 2–5 years of coding experience in ICD-10 and DRGs
- EPIC and CAC experience beneficial
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
