About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide services that increase a child’s ability to function in the home, school, and community.
  • Deliver family peer support that builds on family strengths and promotes positive outcomes.
  • Provide advocacy that encourages collaboration and supports the child’s growth and progress.
  • Assist families in accessing culturally appropriate services across treatment settings.
  • Promote resiliency, self-advocacy, and the development of natural supports.
  • Reinforce and support maintenance of skills learned through other mental health services.
  • Establish and facilitate parent support groups.
  • Help caregivers develop coping and problem-solving skills.
  • Educate families about mental illness, community resources, and opportunities to connect with other families with shared experiences.
  • Collaborate with team members in the development and execution of integrated treatment plans.
  • Maintain timely and accurate documentation in accordance with agency, county, state, and payer requirements.
  • Participate in clinical supervision, multidisciplinary team meetings, trainings, and staff meetings.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and agency policy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have raised or currently be raising a child with a mental illness.
  • Must have current or previous experience navigating the children’s mental health system.
  • Must successfully complete the Minnesota Department of Human Services-approved Certified Family Peer Specialist training and certification exam.
  • Previous experience working with children, families, schools, or community agencies preferred.
