About the role
- Provide senior system programming support for the z/OS operating system and associated mainframe infrastructure, ensuring high availability, performance and service stability.
- Lead the diagnosis and resolution of complex incidents and technical issues, working collaboratively with internal teams, vendors and service providers to restore services and implement long-term solutions.
- Support the planning, design and implementation of system upgrades, infrastructure changes and technical projects affecting the mainframe environment.
- Maintain and improve operational procedures, technical standards and documentation to support consistent and reliable service delivery.
- Provide strategic technical advice to leadership on mainframe technologies, platform capabilities, infrastructure planning and industry developments.
- Apply best practice service management approaches, supporting incident, problem, change and capacity management processes.
- Monitor system performance and capacity, identifying opportunities to improve reliability, efficiency and operational effectiveness.
- Contribute to continual service improvement initiatives to enhance platform stability and operational maturity.
- Provide technical leadership within the infrastructure team, supporting collaboration, knowledge sharing and effective service delivery.
- Participate in on-call and out-of-hours support activities where required to maintain critical system availability.
Requirements
- Extensive experience providing system programming support for enterprise mainframe environments, including the z/OS operating system and associated products.
- Strong technical expertise in mainframe infrastructure, performance management, incident resolution and system optimisation.
- Demonstrated ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues across enterprise platforms and infrastructure environments.
- Experience supporting infrastructure upgrades, system changes and technology projects within critical operational environments.
- Strong understanding of service management practices, including incident, problem, change and capacity management.
- Experience developing and maintaining operational procedures, documentation and technical standards.
- Proven ability to provide strategic technical advice on infrastructure planning, technology upgrades and platform improvements.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills when working with technical teams, vendors and service providers.
- Demonstrated leadership capability, including mentoring technical staff and supporting knowledge transfer within a team.
- Ability to operate effectively in dynamic operational environments while managing competing priorities and service demands.
