About the role

  • Manage environmental claims projects independently from inception to completion, with full project ownership
  • Take responsibility for overall project management including cost estimates, billing, and managing contracts
  • Ensure agreed budgets and delivery deadlines are met
  • Conduct robust fieldwork data gathering and hands-on site work as required
  • Determine your own schedule and manage your workload across a large geographical area
  • Focus on building-related environmental assessment and remediation projects
  • Conduct Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments, including supervision of ground investigation subcontractors
  • Complete factual and interpretative Preliminary Risk Assessments (desk-based and intrusive assessment)
  • Write technically sound and commercially focused proposals, scopes, and reports
  • Work hands-on on site when required, comfortable getting involved in practical work
  • Maintain project communication on technical and commercial levels with a diverse range of clients, regulators, and homeowners
  • Communicate effectively with everyone from site operatives and contractors to professional clients in formal meetings
  • Build positive working relationships through professional and responsive service
  • Represent the company professionally across all levels of interaction
  • Work in a safe manner and observe the company's health, safety and environment rules and procedures as well as any site rules and procedures
  • Ensure all projects are fully compliant with current and emerging environmental legislation
  • Maintain accurate and complete project documentation and records
  • Demonstrate commercial awareness in the need to save and minimise project costs wherever possible
  • Understand commercial risk and inform relevant senior staff where identified so appropriate action can be taken
  • Adopt a solution-oriented approach to challenges

Requirements

  • Degree level qualification (or equivalent) in an engineering or natural science related discipline such as Geology, Engineering Geology, Environmental Science or Physical Geography
  • 3+ years relevant industry experience
  • Previous proven experience of Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessment gained in a similar or related role
  • Previous proven experience completing factual and interpretative Preliminary Risk Assessments (desk-based and intrusive assessment)
  • Understanding of current and emerging environmental legislation
  • Full, clean UK driving licence
  • Strong people skills and ability to communicate face-to-face at all levels
  • Practical, hands-on approach - comfortable working on site and getting involved in fieldwork
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently across large geographical areas
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills with the ability to manage your own schedule
  • Willingness to travel extensively throughout Scotland, including to remote locations such as Orkney and Shetland
  • Occasional overnight stays may be required
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills with attention to detail
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills
  • MSc or MSci in Geology, Hydrogeology, Contaminated Land, Environmental Engineering or Environmental Science (Desirable)
  • Experience in insurance-related environmental work or building-related environmental assessment (Desirable)
  • Background in environmental claims management (Desirable)
  • Practical work experience in sectors such as construction, farming, labouring, or similar hands-on roles (Desirable)
  • Real-world customer-facing experience (e.g., retail, hospitality, or similar) (Desirable)
