About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Develop conceptual equipment layouts, general arrangement drawings, and proposal-level design packages for heavy industrial equipment and complete process systems
  • Use Autodesk Inventor and other CAD tools for layout development, visualization, and equipment coordination
  • Prepare proposal drawings and customer submittal packages communicating scope, configuration, interfaces, and dimensions
  • Develop plant arrangements and preliminary system configurations for customer evaluation, budgeting, and internal review
  • Create visual representations communicating project concepts, installation requirements, maintenance access, and equipment interfaces
  • Support estimating and proposal teams with preliminary layouts and dimensional information
  • Modify conceptual drawings based on customer feedback and internal review comments
  • Coordinate with Sales, Applications Engineering, Engineering, and Project Management
  • Maintain drawing templates, model libraries, and equipment configurations
  • Assist with space allocation, equipment fit-up reviews, and site layout evaluations
  • Organize Inventor models, drawings, and documentation according to document control practices
  • Support transition of awarded projects to detailed engineering teams
  • Incorporate input concerning thermal expansion, insulation, and mechanical loading
  • Perform geometric and material calculations, including lengths, areas, volumes, weights, angles, and centers of gravity
  • Participate in interdisciplinary coordination supporting project execution

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Associate’s degree in Computer-Aided Design (CAD), Drafting Technology, Engineering Technology, or a related field
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience as a designer or drafter supporting industrial equipment, mechanical systems, plant layouts, or similar technical projects
  • Strong CAD drafting and layout skills
  • Working proficiency in Autodesk Inventor or similar 3D modeling software
  • Experience preparing conceptual layouts, general arrangement drawings, proposal drawings, and customer-facing technical documentation
  • Strong visualization, spatial layout, and equipment arrangement skills
  • Ability to interpret customer specifications, sketches, P&IDs, equipment data, and engineering input
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple project activities simultaneously
  • Ability to recognize equipment interfaces, access needs, maintenance clearances, and practical layout constraints
  • Ability to perform basic geometric and material quantity calculations accurately
  • Preferred: experience with air pollution control equipment, process equipment, or heavy industrial systems
  • Preferred: familiarity with SCR systems, baghouses, ESPs, ducting systems, dampers, stacks, and related equipment
  • Preferred: experience supporting sales, estimating, applications engineering, or proposal development
  • Preferred: knowledge of fabrication, manufacturing processes, thermal expansion, welding practices, P&IDs, Autodesk Vault, and document management systems
  • Physical ability to perform the listed job activities and comply with company attendance standards
