About the role

Develop and deliver training: Create and lead educational programs, online resources, and training sessions for cancer registrars and data specialists.
Ensure compliance: Help ensure consistent application of cancer case abstraction protocols and reporting standards by professionals across Massachusetts.
Stay current: Stay up to date on federal and national cancer data standards and regulatory updates to inform training and recommendations.
Quality assurance: Contribute to the Registry's quality assurance efforts, including data audits, feedback delivery, and evaluating the impact of training programs.
Subject matter expertise: Serve as an expert on cancer data standards and reporting requirements for the state.
Flexible and adaptable: Ability to respond to changing priorities or program needs, while maintaining discretion with confidential information.

Education: Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) Certification is required.
Experience: At least three years of experience abstracting cancer case records is required. Preference is given to 4-5 years of experience. Working knowledge of the SEER*DMS data system is a plus.
Skills: Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and cancer registry procedures. Excellent communication, attention to detail, and the ability to analyze data and make recommendations are also crucial.
Travel: Ability to travel to Boston 1-2 times per year for on-site work.
