About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Make a difference every day by joining CCRES as a Check & Connect Intervention Specialist on assignment with the Philadelphia Virtual Academy!
  • Implement the structured Check & Connect model to monitor and mentor a designated roster of PVA students.
  • Systematically track student engagement indicators, including online attendance, course progression, and credit accrual ("Check").
  • Deliver targeted, regular interventions through virtual and hybrid channels to build meaningful relationship-focused support ("Connect").
  • Establish consistent communication loops with families and caregivers to discuss student progress and address barriers to engagement.
  • Problem-solve with students to develop individualized goals, organizational strategies, and academic action plans. Collaborate closely with teachers, counselors, advisors, and administration to align support strategies for high-risk students. De-escalate and troubleshoot student disengagement trends, escalating critical concerns to appropriate PVA staff members.
  • Assist students in accessing academic support, tutoring, virtual support rooms, and other designated educational resources.
  • Provide proactive guidance regarding school procedures, expectations, and virtual navigation.
  • Support targeted outreach and re-engagement campaigns for students demonstrating acute chronic absenteeism or learning gaps.
  • Assist with virtual events, student orientations, family information sessions, and connection initiatives.
  • Foster an asset-based, encouraging, and supportive virtual environment that champions student persistence and autonomy.
  • Maintain detailed, accurate, and confidential records of all student monitoring, interventions, and family interactions. Collect, organize, and report implementation and student progress data as assigned by the Student Support Liaison.
  • Perform routine data entry, document tracking, and record maintenance within designated school databases.
  • Assist with the preparation of data summaries, intervention impact reports, and documentation.
  • Support special projects and operational initiatives aligned with student retention goals as assigned.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Excellent relational, communication (oral and written), and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational and case-management skills with the ability to maintain meticulous records.
  • Ability to effectively problem-solve with students and partner with families from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to adapt to organizational, system, and developmental changes with assistance from supervisor and/or colleagues.
  • High school diploma or GED required; post-secondary education in education, social work, human services, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience working with at-risk youth or implementing student intervention strategies in an educational setting is preferred.
  • Experience managing virtual communication channels or operating within online learning environments is preferred.
  • Philadelphia residency is preferred due to the school-based nature of the position.
