About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Prepare meals according to menus, recipes, and guidelines, including portioning and presentation
- Assist with cooking and assembling food items
- Serve meals to students and staff
- Set up and maintain clean serving lines
- Follow food safety, sanitation, handwashing, and hygiene procedures
- Monitor food temperatures during storage, preparation, and serving
- Operate POS systems and cash registers
- Process meal payments and determine federally reimbursable meals
- Count and handle money accurately
- Use POS, email, and online employee applications
- Provide high-quality customer service
- Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, utensils, work areas, and food service areas
- Assist with dishwashing and routine cleaning, including washing dishes, sweeping, mopping, cleaning employee bathrooms, and putting stock away
- Operate institutional kitchen equipment, calculators, and registers
- Work with principals, school staff, students, parents, managers, vendors, and Food & Nutrition Services staff
- Work independently under general supervision and perform other assigned duties
Requirements
What you’ll need- Some knowledge about food preparation
- Ability to count money and products
- Ability to prepare and merchandise food and work safely with equipment
- Ability to learn federal school lunch and breakfast program requirements and regulations
- Ability to work cooperatively with students, parents, staff, coworkers, vendors, and the public
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- High school diploma, equivalent, or comparable combination of experience and training
- Successful FBI criminal history investigation
- Successful State Police criminal history investigation
- Successful Child Protective Services investigation
- Successful tuberculosis screening/test
- Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Ability to stand, walk, balance, stoop, push, pull, kneel, crouch, crawl, and routinely load, push, and pull crescors and carts
- Ability to work around hot and cold objects, moving mechanical parts, electrical hazards, extreme temperatures, hot kitchens, and walk-in refrigerators/freezers
