About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Design and implement database architecture supporting business requirements and high performance, availability, and security
- Oversee installation, configuration, and maintenance of PostgreSQL databases
- Conduct database performance tuning, including queries, stored procedures, and indexing strategies
- Develop and implement backup, recovery, and failover procedures
- Assist with data model and database solution design and development
- Collaborate with development teams to optimize database code in application layers
- Provide database best-practice guidance to IT staff and stakeholders
- Maintain current database infrastructure, technology, and security patches
- Develop and maintain documentation for database configurations, architectures, and procedures
- Serve as point of contact for database-related queries and technical support
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field
- Strong expertise in PostgreSQL database administration, tuning, management, and security
- Proficiency in SQL and experience with PL/pgSQL or similar procedural language
- Familiarity with database design, documentation, and coding
- Previous experience with Linux/Unix and scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or Perl
- Knowledge of PostgreSQL high availability and disaster recovery options
- Good understanding of hardware performance, memory, and I/O
- Top Secret Clearance is required
- Must be able to pass a background check
- May require additional background checks during employment
- Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills
- Proven ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities
- Must be self-motivated and able to work independently and on a multifunctional team
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately
- Proficient in MS Office, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel
- PostgreSQL certification is desired
- Experience with AWS, Azure, or OCI and Docker or Kubernetes is desired
- Familiarity with Oracle and MSSQL is desired
- Ability to work on-site at the client’s facility in the National Capitol Region
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including outside normal business hours when needed
- May be asked to travel for business or professional development purposes
