About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Perform technical care and diagnostic examinations for ophthalmic services and refractions at the Laser Center
Assist with pre-operative evaluation, including corneal topography and pachymetry
Set up operating rooms and provide equipment and instruments for ophthalmic surgery
Maintain a sterile surgical environment
Ensure the laser is operational and assist the surgeon with laser equipment
Provide intra-operative support as surgical assistant and scrub assistant
Assist with routine and specialty contact lens care
Dispose of contaminated supplies and clean and sterilize instruments post-operatively
Send damaged equipment for servicing or replacement and prepare incident reports when indicated
Assist with post-operative refractions and diagnostic testing
Provide and document telephonic patient assistance according to MTF protocols
Attend department meetings to review and evaluate patient care
Participate in clinical research as directed
Provide clinical education and instruction to students and residents
Follow client and Cayuse policies and procedures
Draft and deliver additional reports as required
Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need

High school graduate or equivalent
Minimum of one-year clinical experience, including at least six months within the past 12 months
Practical knowledge of surgical equipment, instruments, and supplies
Skills sufficient to set up surgical materials and position and drape patients
Ability to recognize and assess deviations from normal conditions, make immediate modifications, and notify the Ophthalmologist
Knowledge and training or work experience sufficient to resolve a range of problems and complete assignments
Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
Active Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
Must maintain BLS certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
N95 Respirator Clearance for fit testing and unrestricted wearing before starting work and annually
Tuberculosis screening within three months of reporting to the client site
Current Tdap, MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B, and annual influenza immunizations as specified
Annual medical clearance at client site
Must pass a background check
Problem-solving skills
Read, write, and speak English well enough to communicate effectively with health care providers and other parties
Clear in-person and telephone communication ability
Proficient in Microsoft and Adobe toolsets, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Acrobat
Ability to manage multiple tasks
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Ability to work on-site in Honolulu, HI
Ability to work Monday through Friday, 7:00am–4:00pm, with occasional Saturday work
Physically and mentally able to perform duties for extended periods
Ability to use computers and office productivity tools
May need to work flexible schedules, holidays, or outside normal business hours
