About the role
- Provide Translation services for individuals with a language barrier, including Education, legal, Medical, Environmental, and Social Services
- Accurately translate spoken work situations like lectures, conversations, and meetings
- Utilize technology to transcribe spoken English in some settings
- Read original documents and translate into required language
- Edit translated versions
- Be sensitive to the culture of original and target languages during translation
- Be on-call and respond to job notifications within 48 hours
- May travel for business or professional development
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- High School/BA Degree/ or equivalent in years of experience
- Foreign Service Institute . Certified Translation Professional. ATA Certification . Translation Certifications
- Experience with State Department experience/ refugees, FDA, Health & Human services, Medical, Legal, Housing Authority etc.
- Must be fluent in Q'eqchi
- Must be able to pass a background check
- May require additional background checks as required by projects and/or clients at any time during employment
- The ability to facilitate translation with discretion and impartiality
- Proficiency in written communication
- A wide breadth of knowledge in a variety of topics
- Strong social awareness for interpretation with empathy and attentiveness
- Cultural awareness when conducting translations within different regions
- Physical stamina and dexterity for extended sessions
- Must possess problem-solving skills
- Proficient in Microsoft and Adobe toolsets, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Acrobat, etc.
- Highly motivated with the ability to handle and manage multiple tasks at any one time
- Ability to forge new relationships, individual and teaming in nature
- Must be a Self-starter, that can work independently and as part of a team
