About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide high-quality, in-person consecutive and/or simultaneous Vietnamese–English interpretation for Arizona courts and related justice system entities
  • Interpret accurately, completely, and impartially in civil, criminal, family, juvenile, pretrial, probation, sentencing, detention, forensic interview, and other legal proceedings
  • Adhere to ethical standards and professional codes of conduct, including confidentiality, impartiality, and professionalism
  • Review case-related materials and prepare terminology for assignments
  • Communicate with Cayuse coordinators and court personnel about logistics, arrival times, and status updates
  • Convey complex legal terminology, procedural language, and specialized vocabulary accurately
  • Comply with Arizona court policies, rules, and interpreter-service guidelines
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Report to the Deputy Program Manager
  • Accept potential assignments on an as-needed basis, typically with 24–48 hours’ notice

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree (BA) or higher in Linguistics, Translation/Interpretation, Foreign Languages, Legal Studies, or related discipline
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience providing language services
  • Court or judiciary interpreting experience strongly preferred
  • Legal services interpretation experience preferred
  • Prior on-site interpretation experience in high-stakes, confidential, and sensitive environments
  • Native or near-native proficiency in Vietnamese and English
  • Strong command of legal terminology in Vietnamese and English
  • Court certification in Arizona as an Interpreter and/or qualifying credentials, including CPC completion, at least 45 hours of formal legal services training, NAJIT interpreter examination, FCICE, relevant seminar or conference testing, or membership/qualification with an applicable professional conference interpretation organization
  • Must be able to pass a background check
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to respond effectively to customers with a sense of urgency
  • Proficiency in Microsoft and Adobe toolsets, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Acrobat
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Must be able to work on-call and travel to different locations for in-person interpretation
  • Must be physically and mentally able to perform duties for extended periods
  • Ability to use computers and office productivity tools sufficiently
  • Must be able to establish a productive and professional workspace
  • Must be able to sit for long periods while looking at a computer screen
  • May be required to travel for business or professional development
