About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Manage a caseload of 35-50 clients under supervision of attorney.
  • Provide legal guidance to clients with attorney supervision.
  • Meet with clients to conduct intake, prepare applications or petitions, and collect evidence or supporting documentation.
  • File required paperwork with USCIS and/or State Department once an attorney has reviewed and approved the application.
  • Conduct legal research as relevant or requested by attorneys.
  • Provide support to attorney(s) on complex cases.
  • Adhere to internal case management policies and procedures.
  • Stay abreast of changes in immigration law, executive orders, policy directives and related issues affecting clients.
  • Perform administrative tasks, maintain complete and accurate client records, keep detailed case notes, and utilize program management software (LawLogix/Edge).
  • Track and prepare case statistics, client stories, and other program-related data as requested by supervisor.
  • Participate in community outreach and education activities including immigration group processing workshops.
  • Work is performed in an office setting with prolonged periods of sitting and frequent use of computers and other standard office equipment.
  • Local travel as needed to perform the essential functions of the position.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree or associate degree with 3-5 years relevant experience required.
  • Minimum 1-2 experience of working with immigrant or refugee populations.
  • Consular processing experience.
  • Sensitivity in working with survivors of abuse, trauma, violence or war is required.
  • Experience with providing trauma-informed care and services is preferred.
  • Demonstrated cultural competence and responsiveness, commitment to racial justice and equity, and ability to work effectively in multicultural and multilingual workplace with diverse client population required.
  • Strong writing, proofreading and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent administrative, data collection, keyboarding and computer skills with keen attention to detail required.
  • High proficiency with use of technology including MS Office, e-learning and webinars, database systems and virtual meeting tools.
  • Access to reliable vehicle or public transportation for work travel is required.
