About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Contribute to design, solution development, strategy, and solution development as a Data Scientist
Perform programming, project management, and development assignments independently, including complex systems work
Identify and resolve complex application and technical problems, including off-shift and weekend support calls
Work independently on complex systems or infrastructure components used by applications or systems
Drive application development focused on delivering business-value features
Mentor and assist data scientists by providing technical assistance and direction
Establish software quality practices and habits within the team
Identify and encourage areas for team growth and improvement
Guide development of structured application/interface code, program documentation, operations documentation, and user guides
Communicate with end users and internal customers to direct application software development, debugging, and testing
Perform integrated testing and customer acceptance testing with careful planning and execution
Perform other job duties as assigned by Caterpillar management

Requirements

What you’ll need

BS or MS degree in a quantitative discipline such as data science, data analytics, computer science, engineering, statistics, mathematics, finance, or another related degree
5+ years of overall professional experience
3+ years of proven experience as a Data Scientist designing and implementing data processing and machine learning frameworks
Recent 3+ years of experience with Python and SQL
Hands-on experience with Agents, Large Language Models, Small Language Models, Retrieval Augmented Generation, Generative AI, Natural Language Processing, and Deep Learning
