About the role

  • Lead deep-dive evaluations of opportunities identified through the Growth Accelerator See pipeline.
  • Pressure-test opportunities across strategic, technical, commercial, and competitive dimensions.
  • Partner with internal engineering teams and Business Units to assess how opportunities align with Caterpillar’s strategic focus areas.
  • Analyze the competitive landscape to determine target differentiation, defensibility, and strategic relevance.
  • Develop clear recommendations on whether to build, partner, acquire, or invest, supported by data and structured analysis.
  • Translate complex analyses into concise, compelling narratives for senior leadership decision-making.
  • Build high-quality, executive-ready presentations that clearly frame the opportunity, risks, tradeoffs, and recommended path forward.
  • Support handoff to the Act role for execution when opportunities advance

Requirements

  • Strong ability to assess opportunities holistically, integrating market, technology, customer, and competitive insights.
  • Experience working effectively with engineers, Business Units, and functional teams to gather inputs and test assumptions.
  • Ability to evaluate competitive environments, alternative solutions, and relative positioning.
  • Comfort breaking ambiguous problems into clear frameworks, hypotheses, and decision points.
  • A demonstrated “superpower” in telling a clear, persuasive story—particularly through clean, well-structured presentations.
  • Excellence Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Intellectual curiosity, coachability, and ambition to grow into a future leadership or manager role.
