About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Shape how the Analytics Toolbox framework is packaged, versioned, and deployed across partner engines and AI-agent consumers
- Set the strategy for SQL execution across BigQuery, Snowflake, Redshift, Databricks, Postgres, and Oracle
- Define CARTO’s spatial-first Iceberg and open-format direction
- Represent CARTO in OGC working groups, Cloud Native Geospatial communities, FOSS4G, conferences, and standards work
- Help define the interface for AI agents using the Analytics Toolbox
- Shape the technical direction of the Workflows team and broader Spatial Analytics group
- Write strategy documents and ship production code that proves the strategy
Requirements
What you’ll need- Significant career experience in the cloud-native geospatial world
- Experience building with or shaping DuckDB, GeoParquet, STAC, Arrow, Iceberg, point cloud formats, MobilityDB, or similar
- Advanced SQL knowledge at the engine level
- Ability to read execution plans across BigQuery, Snowflake, Redshift, and Databricks
- Understanding of partitioning, clustering, file pruning, pushdown, and cost for spatial workloads
- Production experience shipping LLM-powered features
- Experience with agentic patterns and a perspective on their impact on analytics
- Visible community participation through talks, maintained open-source projects, standards working groups, or influential technical writing
- Low-ego technical leadership and production-code development experience
- Experience in cloud-native, serverless environments on GCP or AWS
- TypeScript / Node.js experience is a plus, not a primary hiring requirement
