About the role
- Oversee and manage CSE intellectual property issues and provide guidance to senior management and general legal counsel on IP matters
- Draft internal agreements to support CIT including R&D service agreements, IP asset transfer agreements, and license agreements
- Draft and negotiate agreements with external parties including development, technical services, university agreements, software licenses, NDAs, sponsorships, and counsel on agreements with IP components
- Integrate CIT into Carrier R&D and IP processes, create standard work, and communicate with Legal and R&D leadership
- Build and manage external relationships with outside counsel and collaborators and manage work delivery on-time and within budget
- Oversee trademark matters and make decisions regarding the CIT trademark portfolio
- Build and manage CIT patent portfolio: prepare, prosecute, maintain, defend filings, review outside-counsel matters, advise on protection strategies, manage EPO/national proceedings, and annuities decisions
- Support New Product Development projects: conduct risk assessments, provide strategic IP advice, manage FTO, infringement and validity analyses, and support competitive intelligence and IP monitoring
- Monitor IP owned by CIT for potential infringement, prepare opinions, and oversee infringement matters
- Learn and implement IP department tools and processes and pursue continuous improvement
- Oversee IP professionals in Europe and provide leadership and guidance on a wide range of IP issues
- Maintain and apply deep expertise of international and regional IP laws, monitor legal/regulatory changes, and ensure compliance across Carrier Europe
Requirements
- Candidate should have expertise and training in technical intellectual property matters
- Preferably fully qualified US Patent Attorney or fully qualified European Patent Attorney
- Fluency English required
- Strong skills in at least one European language (German or French) are an important plus
- Substantial several years experience relating to intellectual property law gained in an international law firm and/or in-house
- Ability to develop strategies and effectively communicate within all levels of the organization and manage senior relationships across all business and functional areas
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to work independently
- Highly developed skills in priority setting and alignment of project priorities with the department strategy
- Demonstrated ability to manage adversity and challenging situations
- Global perspective with the interest and proven ability to work in a multi-cultural and multi-functional environment
- Ability to develop and maintain internal partnerships and interact with colleagues at all levels of the organization with credibility, integrity, and respect
