About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide direct speech/language pathology services to patients of all ages referred to the department
  • Select evaluation procedures and develop individualized treatment programs
  • Plan age-appropriate treatment programs based on referrals, evaluations, and patient/family goals
  • Maintain a productive schedule averaging 6.0 of 8.0 hours per day in direct clinical care
  • Administer daily treatment and adjust plans to changing patient needs
  • Provide special services such as video swallow studies
  • Communicate with physicians, team members, professionals, family members, and caregivers to support optimum patient care
  • Select assistive devices and instruct patients in their maintenance and use
  • Educate patients and families based on patient needs
  • Determine readiness for discharge and plan discharge services, including home treatment plans
  • Administer and interpret assessments covering communication, cognition, swallowing, articulation, fluency, voice, and augmentative systems
  • Complete documentation according to departmental policy
  • Perform charge entry, maintain a clean work environment, and participate in committees and program development
  • May supervise speech pathology students and interns after obtaining Certificate of Clinical Competence

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Master's Degree in Speech Language Pathology required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association required within 30 days
  • Provide care to infants, children, adolescents, and adults depending on assignment
  • Successfully complete all competency assessments related to patient care
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence required before supervising speech pathology students and interns
  • Ability to perform speech, language, cognition, voice, articulation, fluency, communication, and swallowing assessments
  • Ability to develop and adjust individualized treatment programs
  • Ability to select and instruct patients on assistive devices
  • Ability to complete clinical documentation and charge entry
  • Ability to work day shift, 5 days per week, with one weekend per month and one summer and winter holiday per year
