About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide direct speech/language pathology services to patients of all ages referred to the department
- Select evaluation procedures and develop individualized treatment programs
- Plan age-appropriate treatment programs based on referrals, evaluations, and patient/family goals
- Maintain a productive schedule averaging 6.0 of 8.0 hours per day in direct clinical care
- Administer daily treatment and adjust plans to changing patient needs
- Provide special services such as video swallow studies
- Communicate with physicians, team members, professionals, family members, and caregivers to support optimum patient care
- Select assistive devices and instruct patients in their maintenance and use
- Educate patients and families based on patient needs
- Determine readiness for discharge and plan discharge services, including home treatment plans
- Administer and interpret assessments covering communication, cognition, swallowing, articulation, fluency, voice, and augmentative systems
- Complete documentation according to departmental policy
- Perform charge entry, maintain a clean work environment, and participate in committees and program development
- May supervise speech pathology students and interns after obtaining Certificate of Clinical Competence
Requirements
What you’ll need- Master's Degree in Speech Language Pathology required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association required within 30 days
- Provide care to infants, children, adolescents, and adults depending on assignment
- Successfully complete all competency assessments related to patient care
- Certificate of Clinical Competence required before supervising speech pathology students and interns
- Ability to perform speech, language, cognition, voice, articulation, fluency, communication, and swallowing assessments
- Ability to develop and adjust individualized treatment programs
- Ability to select and instruct patients on assistive devices
- Ability to complete clinical documentation and charge entry
- Ability to work day shift, 5 days per week, with one weekend per month and one summer and winter holiday per year
