About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Provide direct speech/language pathology services to patients of all ages referred to the department
Select evaluation procedures and develop individualized treatment programs
Plan age-appropriate treatment programs based on referrals, evaluations, and patient/family goals
Maintain a productive schedule averaging 6.0 of 8.0 hours per day in direct clinical care
Administer daily treatment and adjust plans to changing patient needs
Provide special services such as video swallow studies
Communicate with physicians, team members, professionals, family members, and caregivers to support optimum patient care
Select assistive devices and instruct patients in their maintenance and use
Educate patients and families based on patient needs
Determine readiness for discharge and plan discharge services, including home treatment plans
Administer and interpret assessments covering communication, cognition, swallowing, articulation, fluency, voice, and augmentative systems
Complete documentation according to departmental policy
Perform charge entry, maintain a clean work environment, and participate in committees and program development
May supervise speech pathology students and interns after obtaining Certificate of Clinical Competence

Requirements

What you’ll need

Master's Degree in Speech Language Pathology required
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association required within 30 days
Provide care to infants, children, adolescents, and adults depending on assignment
Successfully complete all competency assessments related to patient care
Certificate of Clinical Competence required before supervising speech pathology students and interns
Ability to perform speech, language, cognition, voice, articulation, fluency, communication, and swallowing assessments
Ability to develop and adjust individualized treatment programs
Ability to select and instruct patients on assistive devices
Ability to complete clinical documentation and charge entry
Ability to work day shift, 5 days per week, with one weekend per month and one summer and winter holiday per year
