About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform clinical and clerical activities to expedite patient flow and medical-office business activities
  • Assist nurses and providers with quality healthcare delivery and orderly patient flow
  • Prepare patients by taking vital signs and screening general medical health
  • Obtain patient lab specimens as needed

  • Perform point-of-care waived testing, lab testing, and quality control
  • Provide patient education when appropriate
  • Assist clerical staff with telephone answering, message taking, appointment scheduling, chart retrieval, scanning, filing, copying, and front-office operations
  • Use all office computer systems competently
  • Participate in continuing education and meetings

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma/GED
  • One of the listed medical assistant certifications: RMA (ARMA), RMA (AAH), CCMA (NHA), RMA (AMT), CMA (NCCT), NRCMA (NAHP), or CMA (AAMA)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days through the American Heart Association
  • Knowledge and skills for point-of-care waived testing
  • Competence in lab testing and quality control according to provider orders and laboratory procedures/policies
  • Knowledge of office safety policies and organizational procedures
  • Ability to work independently within established practice guidelines
  • Ability to provide care appropriate to patients of all ages
  • Competence using office computer systems
