About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Assist Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses with delegated patient care and unit maintenance activities
- Provide patient hygiene, nutritional, elimination, skin care, comfort, and activity support
- Perform patient measurements including intake/output, vital signs, blood pressure, weights, drains, and abdominal girth
- Perform additional trained and certified skills such as intermittent urinary catheterization and clean dressing changes
- Assist with patient admission, transfer, and discharge processes
- Make patient rounds at least every two hours and respond promptly to call lights
- Report pertinent patient information to the assigned nurse and complete documentation before leaving the shift
- Maintain clean, organized, safe, and adequately stocked patient rooms and unit areas
- Perform unit maintenance duties, errands, equipment setup, supply management, and cleaning tasks
- Assist with patient lifting, transfers, moving, and handling using appropriate safety equipment
- Promote patient, family, staff, and environmental safety and report unsafe equipment or situations
- Contribute to department goals, quality assurance, infection control, patient satisfaction, and teamwork
- Attend educational offerings and support staffing needs across shifts
- Demonstrate warmth, concern, respect, privacy, and responsive communication with patients, families, and hospital personnel
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school diploma/GED required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association within 30 days
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training within 3 months
- Ability to perform delegated patient care procedures under nurse direction
- Ability to provide hygiene, nutrition, elimination, skin care, comfort, mobility, and activity assistance
- Ability to perform patient measurements, vital signs, intake/output, and other assessments
- Ability to assist with admissions, transfers, discharges, lifting, transfers, and patient handling
- Ability to maintain a clean, organized, stocked, and safe patient environment
- Ability to use protective equipment, hand hygiene, body mechanics, gait belts, restraints, slide boards, and lift equipment appropriately
- Ability to respond promptly to alarms, call lights, urgent requests, and patient needs
- Ability to organize and prioritize work and accept delegated duties from registered and licensed practical nurses
- Ability to communicate pertinent patient information to nurses and interact respectfully with patients, families, and hospital personnel
- Ability to attend educational offerings and maintain current patient-care knowledge
