About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Float to various inpatient units including Medical-Oncology, surgical-orthopedic, Cardiovascular Care, Progressive Care, Mental Health, and Acute Rehab
Provide direct nursing care to varied patient populations
Conduct and document assessments, nursing diagnoses, care plans, interventions, and evaluations
Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members and coordinate patient care
Manage care for acute and chronically ill cardiac and pulmonary patients
Administer medications and evaluate their effects
Prepare patients for procedures, provide pain management, IV venipuncture, blood administration, and laboratory monitoring
Discharge patients and provide safe-transition instructions
Document all care using the EMR
Delegate and follow up on patient care tasks assigned to HCTs
Complete bedside shift reports, rounding, patient education, admissions, and discharges
Maintain patient safety, including fall, pressure-ulcer, isolation, and ambulation precautions
Answer call lights and triage patient requests and medical needs
Use critical thinking and nursing judgment to identify and respond to changes in patient status
Communicate effectively with the healthcare team to support interdisciplinary collaboration and patient safety
Provide postoperative care for complex surgical patients
Act as a resource to staff from various units
Participate in team huddles and manage conflict professionally

Requirements

What you’ll need

Minimum 2 years of RN experience in an inpatient hospital setting
Licensed Registered Professional Nurse (RN) through the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR)
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association within 30 days
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification from the American Heart Association within 1 year
College diploma in Nursing
Fulfillment of all departmental competencies
Ability to provide care across medical-oncology, surgical-orthopedic, cardiovascular, progressive care, mental health, and acute rehabilitation units
Ability to administer medications using the patient five rights
Ability to perform IV venipuncture and blood administration
Ability to use an EMR for documentation
Ability to assess patients and exercise nursing judgment
Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams
Ability to delegate patient care tasks and provide follow-up
