About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide oncology nursing care to patients and families throughout cancer journeys, from diagnosis and treatment through symptom control and end-of-life comfort
- Perform unit-specific responsibilities and implement procedures within the scope of practice
- Maintain accurate nursing documentation and meet documentation standards through quarterly chart audits
- Complete patient admission assessments and develop individualized plans of care
- Implement and continuously modify nursing interventions and patient care procedures
- Perform head-to-toe assessments, start IVs, insert NG tubes and Foley catheters, change dressings, and administer medications
- Access and maintain Mediports throughout shifts
- Assist with bedside bone marrow aspirations
- Provide emotional support to patients and families
- Administer chemotherapy and biotherapy on the Oncology unit and throughout the hospital
- Report or correct safety hazards and incidents
- Communicate with colleagues to resolve issues, provide constructive peer feedback, and expand knowledge
- Identify learning needs and complete departmental competencies
Requirements
What you’ll need- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days from the American Heart Association (AHA)
- Licensed Registered Professional Nurse (RN) from the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR)
- High school diploma or GED
- Ability to perform oncology nursing duties within the scope of service
- Ability to complete patient assessments, care plans, nursing interventions, and accurate documentation
- Ability to perform head-to-toe assessments, start IVs, insert NG tubes and Foley catheters, perform dressing changes, and administer medications
- Ability to access and maintain Mediports
- Ability to assist with bedside bone marrow aspirations
- Ability to administer chemotherapy and biotherapy
- Ability to fulfill departmental competency requirements
- Ability to work day shifts, 7 a.m.–7:30 p.m., three 12-hour shifts
- Availability for six weekend shifts per schedule and every other holiday
