Key responsibilities & impact
  • Facilitate Surgical Services operations by supporting multiple areas
  • Apply aseptic technique and move appropriately around the sterile field
  • Assist surgeons, physicians, anesthesia providers, surgical technologists, and registered nurses
  • Perform perioperative support functions for pre-op, intra-op, and post-op
  • Support multiple surgical specialties and phases of surgery
  • Perform sterilization and disinfection techniques
  • Support instrumentation, equipment, anesthesia, and supplies
  • Review daily surgery schedules, collaborate with leadership, and plan support functions
  • Prepare for surgical procedures, patients, and age-specific case requirements
  • Identify barriers and initiate appropriate intervention
  • Operate and troubleshoot surgical, endoscopic, anesthesia, sterilization, laser, and other perioperative equipment
  • Provide technical assistance and case-specific support to surgical teams
  • Set up and operate equipment for a variety of surgical specialties
  • Foster communication with patients' family members and address patient and family needs
  • Promote a safe environment, teamwork, and patient satisfaction
  • Attend department meetings and participate in educational offerings
  • Communicate effectively with nursing staff throughout the shift
  • Participate in available education and training opportunities
  • Assist others with assignments and use time wisely
  • Perform assigned on-call hours outside scheduled work hours, including after-hours, weekends, and holidays

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days through the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Knowledge and skill in aseptic technique
  • Ability to support pre-op, intra-op, and post-op functions
  • Knowledge of multiple surgical specialties and phases of surgery
  • Knowledge of sterilization and disinfection techniques
  • Knowledge of instrumentation, equipment, anesthesia, and supplies
  • Ability to function independently in multiple areas
  • Timely and accurate documentation
  • Ability to work assigned weekly, weekend, and holiday call shifts
  • Working knowledge of surgical conscience, electronic systems, equipment, and perioperative relationships
  • Ability to operate and troubleshoot endoscopic video systems and other surgical equipment
  • Knowledge of laser systems and laser safety compliance
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving ability
  • Ability to collaborate, communicate, and provide support to multiple specialties
  • Ability to attend department meetings and educational offerings
