About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Receive and process incoming laboratory specimens from hospitals, clinics, and branches
- Verify patient identification, specimen type, labeling, shipping conditions, containers, and storage temperatures
- Provide information to providers and phlebotomists regarding specimen requirements and tests
- Perform specimen registration and order entry in the electronic medical record and laboratory computer systems
- Process and prepare specimens, including blood, urine, stool, and body fluids
- Complete event reports for specimens that do not meet requirements
- Load samples onto laboratory instrumentation according to established protocols
- Perform assigned testing in accordance with established protocols
- Train new staff members
- Work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
Requirements
What you’ll need- H.S. Diploma/GED (Required)
- Able to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
- Ability to process blood, urine, stool, and body fluid specimens
- Knowledge of specimen labeling, types, shipping conditions, containers, and storage temperatures
- Ability to perform specimen registration and order entry in electronic medical record and laboratory computer systems
- Ability to load samples onto laboratory instrumentation according to established protocols
- Ability to work evening shifts Monday-Friday, 2:30 p.m.-11:00 p.m.
- Ability to work every 3rd weekend
- Ability to work 2-3 holidays per year
- Ability to work one on-call shift every 4 weeks
