About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Assume responsibility for a group of patients during a designated time frame
- Provide direct patient care to patients emerging from anesthesia post op
- Complete initial patient assessments and develop, implement, and modify plans of care
- Implement nursing interventions and patient care procedures
- Maintain accurate documentation of nursing care
- Perform point-of-care testing, including glucose, urine pregnancy, and iStats
- Initiate IV therapy and administer medications as ordered
- Provide discharge instructions for patients meeting Phase I and Phase II criteria
- Assist anesthesia with nerve blocks, epidurals, and intrathecal procedures
- Monitor and maintain arterial and central lines, chest tubes, Femostop applications, lumbar-EVD drains, sheaths, vascular access, mechanical ventilation, and IV medications
- Collaborate with physicians, anesthesia personnel, OR staff, and Child Life specialists
- Report or correct safety hazards and incidents
- Support peer professional development and identify personal learning needs
- Fulfill departmental competency requirements
Requirements
What you’ll need- Licensed Registered Professional Nurse (RN) through the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association within 30 days
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification from the American Heart Association within 1 year
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification from the American Heart Association within 1 year
- College diploma in Nursing
- Fulfill all departmental competency requirements
