About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Assist providers and clinical staff with obtaining vital information and preparing patients for examinations, treatments, and minor surgical procedures
- Draw and collect blood and other patient samples and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis
- Administer ordered medications and vaccines
- Track follow-up appointments for office visits, laboratory tests, and procedures
- Schedule specialist and outpatient referrals
- Complete referral and lab requisition forms, including CPT/ICD-10 coding
- Document patient care in the electronic health record using standardized workflows
- Answer patient and family questions and provide teaching
- Interpret testing values in relation to patient status and take appropriate next steps within scope and licensure
- Maintain compliance with HIPPA, CLIA, OSHA, Safety, and Risk Management guidelines
- Room patients, obtain vital signs, and perform visual field testing
- Obtain prior authorizations through insurance companies
- Stock supplies and exam rooms
- Attend clinic/department meetings, read emails, and check the organization intranet
- Perform other duties requested by the Clinic Administrator to support office operations
Requirements
What you’ll need- H.S. Diploma/GED
- One listed medical assistant credential: NCCT Certified Medical Assistant, AAMA Certified Medical Assistant, AMT RMA, ARMA RMA, NAHP NRCMA, AAH RMA, or NHA CCMA
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days from the American Heart Association
- Demonstrated competence in clinical skills necessary for assigned duties
- Ability to draw and collect blood and other patient samples, as required
- Ability to administer ordered medications and vaccines
- Knowledge of CPT/ICD-10 coding
- Knowledge of electronic health records and standardized workflows
- Ability to perform visual field testing
- Ability to obtain prior authorizations through insurance companies
- Ability to comply with HIPPA, CLIA, OSHA, Safety, and Risk Management guidelines
- Ability to work the day shift, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.
