About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Function as an integral part of the perioperative team as the first, second, or assisting surgical technician or second circulator under the direct supervision of the registered nurse
  • Apply asepsis principles to maintain a sterile environment
  • Provide age-specific care to obstetrical patients according to department policies and procedures
  • Organize and coordinate supplies and equipment to maintain an efficient and cost-effective department
  • Collect data on assigned patients as directed by the RN and unit-based performance standards
  • Participate in Quality Assessment/Performance Improvement and Infection Control Committees as needed
  • Assist with supply ordering and inventory control
  • Collaborate with surgeons and the OR team to ensure trays, instrumentation, and supplies are ready for procedures
  • Use preference cards to ensure specialized supplies are available
  • Assist with cleaning and sterilization of instruments
  • Properly dispose of trash and sharps
  • Participate in Time Out
  • Assist with room turnover
  • Stock supplies and communicate with the Nurse Manager regarding needed supplies and instruments

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Associate's Degree in Surgical Technology or Certificate of Completion in Surgical Technology
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) within 30 days
  • Ability to apply asepsis principles and maintain a sterile environment
  • Competency in select technical and psychomotor skills, judgment, and appropriate knowledge base
  • Ability to provide age-specific care to obstetrical patients
  • Ability to work Monday-Friday, four 9-hour shifts per week
  • Availability for rotating call weekends every 3-4 nights
  • Availability for rotating holiday call
  • Availability for rotating evening call every 3-4 nights
