About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide practical nursing support in a physician practice or clinic under the direction of a physician or mid-level practitioner
  • Provide nursing care for patients of all ages
  • Complete patient assessments, including height, weight, vital signs, chief complaint, and medications
  • Prepare patients for provider evaluations, examinations, diagnostic procedures, and therapeutic procedures
  • Coordinate tele-retinal and tele-dermatology clinic setup
  • Administer medications and injections as directed
  • Maintain, clean, restock, and sterilize clinical rooms, equipment, supplies, and instruments
  • Document and maintain patient information in the electronic medical record
  • Contribute to performance improvement activities
  • Provide patient teaching on lab results, diet, medications, and follow-up care
  • Assist with specialist referral authorizations and testing pre-authorizations
  • Collect, prepare, label, and dispose of laboratory specimens safely
  • Perform laboratory procedures, phlebotomy, specimen collection, onsite testing, quality control, proficiency testing, equipment calibration, and Q/A plan maintenance when applicable
  • Perform x-ray procedures and related documentation when applicable
  • Perform other trained practice-operation tasks as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing required, or new graduate of an approved program eligible to sit for the Virginia licensure exam
  • One year of experience in a physician office preferred
  • Current licensure as a Practical Nurse in the State of Virginia (LPN) required
  • Current AHA BLS-HCP certification required
  • Limited Radiologic Technician licensure required if performing radiology
  • Customer-driven

  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to problem-solve and communicate effectively with a wide variety of people
  • Ability to use automated computer systems, including electronic medical records
  • Keyboarding skills for automated computer systems and electronic medical records
