About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • The certified nurse midwife provides midwifery care and treatment to pregnant, postpartum, gynecology and family planning patients as part of the department's women's services practices.
  • Develops ongoing collaborative and consultative relationships with department physicians.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Education: Graduate of an Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education accredited midwifery education program.
  • Licensure/Certifications/Registration: Current state Licensed Nurse Practitioner (LNP), DEA license and Registered Nurse (RN) licensure required.
  • Must have collaborative agreement on file between the physician and midwife to meet State Board regulatory requirement.
  • Life Support: AHA BLS-HCP certification required.
  • Other Minimum Qualifications: Eligible for prescriptive authority in accordance with State regulations and as authorized by the Virginia Boards of Nursing and Medicine.
  • Able to work collaboratively with physicians and other health care providers.
  • Demonstrates good written and oral communication skills.
  • Computer literacy required for automated computer systems, including electronic medical records.
  • Demonstrates appropriate independence in clinical practice.
