About the role

  • Accountable for pricing, forecasting, month-end close activities and performance monitoring and explanations
  • Develop key processes and assumptions, accruals, and evaluation of financial experience and trend drivers including comparisons to budget and reforecast
  • Execute strategy and guide teams in development of multiple internal statistical models (bid pricing, financial projections, contract modeling)
  • Proactively identify and influence actuarial concepts/business drivers at Senior Management levels
  • Interact with federal and state regulators and be responsible for integrity of federal or state rate filing requirements
  • Lead new business projects for the business development team when requested
  • Identify and lead opportunities across functions where actuarial team can drive corporate goals
  • Lead a team of actuaries ensuring compliance with Actuarial Standards of Practice and support training and development
  • Remain current on industry developments and explain business impacts
  • Responsible for development of tactical plans and goals for the functional area; perform other duties as requested

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in actuarial science, mathematics, economics or a related field is required
  • Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) is required; Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) preferred
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of decision support, financial analysis, or actuarial experience (preferred)
  • Minimum of three (3) years of management experience (preferred)
  • Strong database experience (SAS or Access) preferred
  • Managed Care or healthcare experience preferred
  • Expert proficiency with Microsoft Suite including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Advanced knowledge of SQL, SAS, R, or other data manipulation software preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; excellent listening and critical thinking skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and high level of professionalism
  • Ability to manage, develop, and motivate staff; provide mentorship and support training
  • Ability to interact with all levels of management and external stakeholders, including regulators
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to report and analyze data
  • Ability to lead audits of data and models and demonstrate sound business judgment
