About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Advise clients on a broad spectrum of commercial and personal lines coverage matters
- Represent clients in coverage litigation as needed
- Analyze complex commercial and personal lines policies, including CGL, Commercial/Personal Umbrella and Excess, Commercial/Personal Auto, and Homeowners
- Evaluate coverage issues
- Draft coverage opinions, reservation of rights letters, denial notices, and position statements
- Research intricate legal issues and interpret policy language alongside applicable statutes across multiple jurisdictions
- Manage matters through all phases of litigation, including pleadings, discovery, motion practice, mediation, trial, and appeal, as applicable
Requirements
What you’ll need- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-accredited law school
- Active membership in good standing with the State Bar of California
- Proven background in insurance coverage analysis, policy interpretation, coverage opinions, and/or coverage litigation
- Strong legal research and writing skills
- Strong multi-jurisdictional analysis skills
- Strong deadline management
- Ability to maintain a minimum of 1,800 annual billable hours
- Experience with first/third-party coverage, bad faith, trial work, or professional liability is a plus, not required
- Federal (U.S. District Courts) or additional state bar admissions are a plus, not required
- Portable book of business is a plus, not required
