About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Independently handle civil litigation and insurance defense files from inception to resolution, with appropriate partner support.
- Take and defend depositions; attend court hearings, mediations, and arbitrations.
- Prepare high-quality pleadings, motions, discovery, and substantive legal research.
- Develop defense strategies, manage discovery, and negotiate settlements.
- Maintain direct, professional contact with clients, insurance carriers, opposing counsel, and experts.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school
- Active membership in good standing with the State Bar of California
- 3–5 years of civil litigation experience, with a strong preference for insurance defense.
- Demonstrated experience taking/defending depositions, arguing motions, and managing written discovery.
- Ability to independently manage a high-volume caseload from inception to resolution.
- Familiarity with billable hour targets, task-based billing, and insurance carrier reporting guidelines.
- Exceptional legal writing, research, and negotiation skills, with a track record of effective client communication.
