Finance Operations Manager

About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Manage a portfolio of nonprofit and for-profit client engagements.
- Review monthly financial reports for quality and accuracy.
- Provide financial guidance and operational recommendations to clients.
- Ensure all client deliverables are completed accurately and on schedule.
- Lead accounting cleanup projects for new and existing clients.
- Oversee client onboarding, including assessment of accounting records, accounting system setup, and transition planning.
- Support implementation of accounting best practices, internal controls, and standardized procedures.
- Assist with special accounting projects and process improvement initiatives.
- Complete QuickBooks online transitions and training sessions.
- Supervise and mentor a team of CFOs and bookkeepers.
- Provide coaching, training, and performance feedback to accounting staff.
- Manage performance reflections for accounting staff.
- Serve as an escalation point for accounting questions and client issues.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 7+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience
- Previous experience in a Controller, Finance Manager/Director, CFO, or similar leadership role
- Must have extensive experience managing finances for non-profit organizations
- Proven experience supervising and mentoring accounting or finance teams
- Strong understanding of financial reporting, month-end close, reconciliations, budgeting, and financial analysis
- Experience leading accounting cleanup projects and transitioning accounting systems
- Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks Online and Desktop
- Excellent organizational, communication, and client relationship management skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, client-service environment
- Experience managing both nonprofit and for-profit accounting engagements strongly preferred
- Experience with both CFO level work and bookkeeping preferred
- CPA preferred but not required
- Residency local to NYS Capital Region.
