About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Manage a portfolio of nonprofit and for-profit client engagements.
  • Review monthly financial reports for quality and accuracy.
  • Provide financial guidance and operational recommendations to clients.
  • Ensure all client deliverables are completed accurately and on schedule.
  • Lead accounting cleanup projects for new and existing clients.
  • Oversee client onboarding, including assessment of accounting records, accounting system setup, and transition planning.
  • Support implementation of accounting best practices, internal controls, and standardized procedures.
  • Assist with special accounting projects and process improvement initiatives.
  • Complete QuickBooks online transitions and training sessions.
  • Supervise and mentor a team of CFOs and bookkeepers.
  • Provide coaching, training, and performance feedback to accounting staff.
  • Manage performance reflections for accounting staff.
  • Serve as an escalation point for accounting questions and client issues.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience
  • Previous experience in a Controller, Finance Manager/Director, CFO, or similar leadership role
  • Must have extensive experience managing finances for non-profit organizations
  • Proven experience supervising and mentoring accounting or finance teams
  • Strong understanding of financial reporting, month-end close, reconciliations, budgeting, and financial analysis
  • Experience leading accounting cleanup projects and transitioning accounting systems
  • Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks Online and Desktop
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and client relationship management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, client-service environment
  • Experience managing both nonprofit and for-profit accounting engagements strongly preferred
  • Experience with both CFO level work and bookkeeping preferred
  • CPA preferred but not required
  • Residency local to NYS Capital Region.
