About the role
- Read and interpret refractory lining drawings
- Use brick saw and bricklaying equipment to lay brick in ladles, furnaces, tundishes, etc.
- Handle bricks by hand for extended periods; perform plug changes and repair slide gates
- Teach installation procedures and provide guidance to correct procedures
- Assist customer staff with refractory installation methods including gunite, pouring, ramming, pumping, ceramic fiber, and firebrick installation
- Clean and prepare ladles, furnaces, and tundishes for repair, relining and fabrication
- Observe product performance at customer sites; perform in-service inspections and post-mortem tear outs; document findings and review with HarbisonWalker International team members
- Work closely with customers to understand requirements, monitor stock levels, and place replacement orders with Customer Service
- Perform preventive and general maintenance on refractory equipment and document preventative maintenance
- Perform spare parts and equipment inventory counts and complete detailed refractory reports
- Observe and promote safety and 5’S standards; participate in daily safety toolbox talks and monthly trainings; maintain a safe and clean working environment
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Ability to safely use brick saw and bricklaying equipment to lay brick
- Requires working knowledge of refractory lined units
- Ability to operate a jib crane and ensure the rigging of the load is correct
- Ability to safely operate a forklift
- Ability to safely operate various hand and electrical tools
- Ability to read, understand and work in conformity with work orders
- Ability to detect and correct unsafe or hazardous conditions of equipment and work environment
- Organized individual with emphasis on quality and the ability to meet deadlines
- Requires fundamental computer skills, experience in excel a plus
- Requires four years of refractory installation knowledge
