Controller

• This role has variety at its core. From facilitating client meetings to overseeing monthly and yearly financial closes, no day will be a typical day.
• You will be supporting our startup clients who need Controller expertise at their growth stage (usually we work with Seed through Series C clients). So, there is always a lot of work to be done!
• You’ll be working with a variety of clients, so the ability to context shift, communicate, prioritize, and evaluate needs is the most important thing you’ll be doing in this role.
• You’ll be managing accountants and processes for our clients and possibly internally to Burkland, too, so you’ll want to have a background in management.
• Embracing the agile and scrappy nature of startups is a must.

Grant Controller

Financial Planning and Analysis

• Develop financial models which are understandable, insightful and adaptable.
• Create and present financial strategy recommendations to the CEO.
• Prepare and present the finance section of client Board meetings. For some clients, fallback is to attend Board meetings and answer finance-related questions.
• Be an integral part of client fundraising processes – help size round, model cap table scenarios/dilution, assist with pitch deck preparation, make investor introductions, participate in investor pitches.
• Lead PC/MSO finance operations and reporting: run close, budgeting/forecasting, KPI dashboards, and board/investor updates across entities.
• Manage structure economics and compliance: oversee MSO service agreement, intercompany billing/allocations/settlements, provider comp, and practice unit economics to align PC compliance with MSO profitability.
• Drive performance and scalability: improve revenue cycle and cash planning, tighten vendor/shared-services spend, strengthen controls/audit readiness, and support growth initiatives (de novos, M&A).
• Have happy clients as demonstrated by periodic CEO feedback and strong NPS scores.
• Identify cross-sell opportunities for Burkland bookkeeping, tax and HR services, make introductions and referrals.
• Overhead tasks (timesheets, invoice approvals, client reporting updates) done on time, accurately, without reminding.
• Lead or help organize 1 CFO knowledge share presentation per year.
• Author at least 3 short-form blog posts or content submissions per year.

CFO Consultant – Digital Health

• Develop and execute innovative, scalable recruitment strategies to attract and hire diverse, high-performing talent across the organization.
• Partner closely with senior leaders to understand business objectives, workforce planning needs, and evolving talent priorities.
• Monitor industry and market trends—particularly within professional services—to ensure Burkland remains competitive in its approach to hiring.
• Use data to inform decisions and continuously improve the recruitment process.
• Build and strengthen Burkland’s employer brand, clearly articulating our culture, values, and employee experience to position us as an employer of choice.
• Own the full-cycle recruitment process, including sourcing, interviewing and closing candidates.
• Craft compelling job descriptions and manage postings across various platforms.
• Build a robust talent pipeline for current and future hiring needs.
• Provide coaching and feedback to hiring managers and interview teams, including developing and leading “Interview Best Practices” training.
• Create a positive and engaging experience for all candidates, serving as the primary point of contact throughout the hiring and onboarding process.
• Champion Burkland’s employer brand by sharing our culture and values with candidates.
• Serve as DEIB lead and member of the DEIB Advocacy Leadership Team.
• Facilitate and expand employee engagement activities such as cultural events, coffee chats and lunch and learns, new hire buddy programs, and more.

Senior People & Talent Lead

Account Manager

• Form a deep understanding of our startup ecosystem and the services we offer.
• Enable, expand, and further monetize an existing set of strategic partners.
• Enable and engage partners by creating thought leadership content - blog posts, webinars, etc., and through events, panels, parties, etc.
• Design effective partner co-marketing campaigns and materials with the help of marketing.
• Put in processes to track partner engagement, referrals, and joint content creation.
• Perform monthly and quarterly partner reviews of goals and refine forecasts.

Partnership Manager

Security Engineer

• Become a trusted ally to CEOs and management teams through efficient, intelligent and accurate work, and the effective communication thereof.
• Working largely independently, apply knowledge, experience, insight, and competence to partner strategically with cybersecurity clients on forward-looking finance.
• This role has variety at its core. From presenting at investor meetings to building financial models for clients, no day will be a “typical day” (hence the typical, atypical day).
• You will help bridge the gap between legacy financial thinking and new ecosystems, functions and capital flows.
• You will be supporting our startup clients who need high-level finance help but may not have a need for a full-time internal CFO at their current stage.
• You will be managing the entire Finance function for your clients, so you’ll want to be comfortable managing a team.
• You will have the opportunity to build out robust processes and systems for our clients. So understanding + embracing the agile and scrappy nature of startups is a must.

CFO Consultant, Cybersecurity

• Own FP&A, forecasting, and board reporting for fintech and SaaS clients
• Build and maintain SaaS and fintech KPI frameworks (MRR/ARR, churn, net retention, CAC payback)
• Partner with founders on fundraising models, valuation narratives, and investor materials
• Support revenue recognition, deferred revenue, and multi-product pricing strategies
• Advise on cash-runway risk, burn optimization, and growth tradeoffs

• Lead monthly close oversight, management reporting, and board packages
• Build and refine unit economics models (CAC/LTV, contribution margin, inventory turns, payback)
• Own cash-flow forecasting with a focus on working capital, inventory, and debt service
• Support pricing strategy, promotions, and margin optimization initiatives
• Partner with founders on fundraising strategy and capital structure decisions
• Advise on revenue recognition, inventory accounting, and cost allocation methodologies
• Mentor junior consultants supporting your client portfolio

Director of Finance, Consumer, Real Estate

• Lead financial reporting, forecasting, and board materials for healthcare clients
• Build models around revenue mix, reimbursement timing, and cash-flow predictability
• Support fundraising and long-range planning in capital-intensive environments
