About the role
- Development and delivery of technical training to emergency service and industrial clients in topics relating to hazardous materials, incident management, use of monitoring and testing equipment as well as good practice guidance and legislation
- Carrying out assessment of delegates where required and providing learner feedback
- Ensuring quality assurance of training services and taking part in standardisation procedures
- Working as part of a team providing scientific support to emergency services as part of an out of hours response rota (1 week in 4)
- Undertaking consultancy services and activities relating to the supply, use and disposal of hazardous materials including incident management
- Maintaining, calibrating and deploying a wide range of analytical equipment (Infra-red, Gas Chromatography/mass spectrometry and Raman techniques) to detect, identify or monitor a range of hazardous materials
- Providing detailed reports following consultancy projects on results, findings and conclusions
- Keeping abreast of current legislation, relevant national and international standards and guidelines and technical developments within the relevant field and provide guidance to clients
- Providing high quality technical consultancy to clients and team members within the Consulting Group
- Supporting other areas of consultancy such as air quality, fire risk assessment and certification services in delivery of projects.
Requirements
- Minimum level 3 AET with a background/qualifications in Chemistry
- Qualifications in Chemistry at degree level, or experience working in the Chemical industry in a laboratory setting
- Good organisational skills and adaptability to a changeable working environment
- Willingness to travel and ability to adapt to work in various locations
- Flexibility in contributing to the on-call rota for technical support services
- Full driving license
- Formal teaching qualification as a minimum Level 3 AET formally PETALS and CAVA in assessment or comparable experience in a teaching or a training environment (Desirable)
- Experience in the use of monitoring equipment (Desirable)
- Member of a related professional institution (Desirable)
