About the role
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of systems engineers across multiple experience levels (SE I through Senior SE III)
- Participate in hiring, onboarding, and retention strategies to build a world-class systems engineering team
- Partner with senior leadership to define and execute the systems engineering roadmap aligned with business objectives
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency, system reliability, and scalability
- Lead cross-functional infrastructure projects from planning through execution
- Evaluate and implement emerging technologies and tools to improve team productivity and system performance
- Ensure 24/7 availability of production environments through effective team scheduling, incident response, and on-call management
- Drive accountability for SLAs, system performance metrics, and operational KPIs
- Lead major incident response efforts and facilitate blameless postmortems to drive systemic improvements
- Establish and enforce standards for documentation, runbooks, change management, and operational procedures
- Manage relationships with cross-functional partners including Development, QA, Customer Support, Professional Services, and Security
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience
- Relevant certifications (AWS, Azure, ITIL, etc.) are a plus
- 3+ years of people management experience, leading technical teams in SaaS or high-availability environment
- 8+ years of hands-on experience in systems administration, infrastructure engineering, or DevOps roles
- Expertise in Linux-based systems administration (required) and Windows Server (highly preferred)
- Strong understanding of SaaS architecture, multi-tenant environments, and production operations at scale
- Experience with public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation)
- Exposure to containerization and orchestration technologies (Kubernetes, Docker)
- Experience with Java-based applications, application servers (Tomcat, JBoss), and performance tuning
- Scripting abilities in Python, PowerShell, Bash, or similar languages
- Demonstrated ability to build and execute technical roadmaps aligned with business goals
- Experience managing incident response, change management, and compliance in production environments
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to assess risk and make data-driven decisions
- Experience with automation, monitoring, and observability platforms (ELK, Prometheus, Grafana, New Relic)
- Understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, load balancing, firewalls)
- Ability to translate technical concepts into business impact and communicate effectively with non-technical audiences
- Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
